What
does "NVOCC" mean ?
Balaji Shipping is a Non Vessel
Owning Common/Container Carrier (NVOCC). This means
that Balaji Shipping does not own or operate any vessels,
but instead uses the services of other Liners or Feeders
who operate their own fleet.

Why
do you need to transport the cargo ?
"International Trade and
Commerce" is the main reason for transport of
cargo. Secondly, transportation by Sea is one of the
cheapest and oldest means of transport known to man.
Balaji Shipping is involved in the carriage of goods
between the Indian-Sub-Continent, South East Asia,
Sri Lanka, Persian Gulf, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma
and Durban to the Middle East/Gulf region and back.
Balaji Shipping can thus be called a "Regional
Operator" rather than a "Global Operator".

What
are the destinations that Balaji Shipping caters to
?
We give below the service
network of Balaji
Shipping (UK) Ltd
Balaji's traffic is normally
routed via various trans-shipment ports i.e. Singapore,
Colombo and UAE. These trans-shipment ports are basically
transit points between two different sailing legs.
The way in which cargoes between various destinations
is routed is given below
Balaji's Cargo Routing:
What
does Balaji Shipping use to carry the cargoes in ?
Balaji is a "Container"
operator and has a fleet of containers of its own.
Containers come in a number of shapes and sizes. The
ones that Balaji uses are the "Dry" and "Reefer" Containers in sizes
20' & 40' both standard (8.6') and High Cube (9.6').
All containers are designed to fit snugly into containerized
ships, thus saving on space, time and ensuring cargo
safety.
<< back
What
is the document/receipt issued to the customer ?
The "receipt" issued
by Balaji Shipping, for the cargo handed over by the
"Shipper" at the port of loading is called
a "Bill of Lading" (B/L). This is the most
important document in shipping. The B/L that Balaji
Shipping issues is a "Combined Transport Bill
of Lading". This bill of lading is a "negotiable"
document by which the holder can claim title/possession
of the cargo. Only on surrender of a duly accomplished
B/L by the consignee, at the discharge/destination
port, can the cargo/container be handed over/delivered
by Balaji Shipping.

How
do we protect the customers from loss of cargo ?
Balaji Shipping (UK) Ltd takes
"Insurance" very seriously. All cargoes
covered by our "Bill of Lading", are insured
by Balaji Shipping with the Through Transport Club
(TT Club). Cargoes are insured against loss, damage,
pilferage, war risk etc. Having a full-fledged Insurance
cover is one of the many reasons why Balaji Shipping
can protect itself and its customers against loss
or damage. This is one of the reasons why cargoes
entrusted to us are reputed to be " In safe hands
".

What
is the Consideration for carriage of cargoes ?
We now come to the most important
factor which is the consideration for carriage of
the cargoes. This is called the "Ocean Freight".
The ocean freight depends upon the destination and
